What was supposed to be one of the most anticipated events of Pacha New York’s pre-opening weekend took an unexpected turn after severe weather forced organizers to halt outdoor programming.
Over the weekend, Rampa addressed fans following weather-related disruptions at Pacha New York’s UNLOCKED and UNBLOCKED events, explaining that lightning in the area required organizers to stop the outdoor portion of the gathering for safety reasons.
In a statement shared on social media, the Keinemusik member emphasized that the decision was made out of concern for attendees and staff.
“Because of lightning, we had to stop the outdoor event for safety reasons,” Rampa wrote, adding that after most guests had left the venue, organizers were able to secure permission to create a spontaneous indoor gathering at a skate ramp area inside the venue.
According to Rampa, the impromptu rave lasted only about 15 minutes and was limited to a small number of remaining attendees due to legal and safety restrictions.
“I really wish this could have been with all of you,” he wrote. “But for legal and safety reasons this was only possible with a very few last guests.”
The event was part of Pacha New York’s highly anticipated pre-opening weekend, which was curated by Rampa ahead of the venue’s official opening later this month. Dubbed UNLOCKED and UNBLOCKED, the two-day celebration was designed as a cross-generational and cross-genre showcase rooted in New York dance music culture. The programming featured appearances from artists including Danny Tenaglia, Joe Claussell, François K, Kitty Ca$h, Gia Fu, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Rampa himself.
The weather disruption comes during an important moment for the newly reimagined venue. Located at the former Brooklyn Mirage site, Pacha New York is preparing for its official opening weekend with performances from Michael Bibi and Black Coffee, both of which have generated significant excitement among New York’s electronic music community.
Despite the setback, Rampa reassured fans that efforts are already underway to make up for the shortened event.
“Working on a new show to make up for it as soon as possible,” he told followers, ending the message with an apology to attendees affected by the weather and expressing appreciation for their support.
While outdoor events are always vulnerable to changing weather conditions, especially during summer storm season, organizers across the live music industry routinely pause or cancel performances when lightning is detected nearby. The decision can be disappointing for fans, but safety protocols leave little room for compromise when severe weather threatens large gatherings.
For now, attendees who missed out on the full experience may not have to wait long. If Rampa’s statement is any indication, plans for a return event could already be in the works.
